After Jesus was born in Bethlehem, in Judea, in the days of Herod the king, there came wise men from the East to Jerusalem (Matthew 2:1). They come from a distant land. "East" is estimated to be in Babylon, or now known as Iraq. Hundreds of kilometers away from Jerusalem, passing through a severe desert terrain, a short walk or ride a camel. They called the wise men, scholars and sages of his time, astrology reviewers, who usually worked in the palace as an adviser to the king. And the wise men were wise decisions. Gospel of Matthew implies that they do not postpone their departure. They did not wait for the king was to maturity and appear as a figure of renown, has come. No, they rush to get ready to travel far to seek him, to leave work and their daily lives. They intended to convey respect for even the new-born King. We knew then, their persistence paid off brilliantly. How persistent we seek Him? We no longer need to travel long distances such as the Magi. We can find Him in the midst of daily devotional by taking time, which we specialize to worship and learn of Christ. Do we prioritize this special occasion? How big is our desire to know Him, to develop a personal relationship with Him, seeking first the kingdom of God and His righteousness?
