THE FAITH CHALLENGE OF BELIEVERS

Baca: 2 TIMOTHY 3:10-17

Bacaan tahunan: Acts 27-28

Reading Paul's advice to Timothy in this devotional, cannot be separated from Paul's experience when preaching the Gospel in several areas mentioned (see Acts 13:14-14:20). It is a life experience that should not be ignored by every follower of Christ because being a follower of Christ, especially being a preacher of the Gospel or a servant of the Lord, is not an easy journey or without challenges. Some people experience insults, suffering, and even persecution that can lead to death.

Paul and the apostles faced resistance from people who were disturbed by the preaching of Christ they brought. This seems to be also experienced by Timothy, which made Paul emphasize that everyone who worships in Christ will experience persecution (verse 12), but they must hold on to the truth (verse 14). Even to this day, some believers face faith challenges in the form of threats, physical attacks, or suffering beyond normal limits. A condition that requires steadfastness, faith, patience, love, and perseverance in order to endure, even to overcome all of it.

We may not face faith challenges like the apostles, but we need to prepare ourselves because we never know when the test of faith will come upon us. May the example of Paul and other figures in the Bible ignite our determination to remain faithful until the end of our lives, no matter how heavy the challenges of faith we will face later on.
