Baca: PSALM 23
Bacaan tahunan: Numbers 14-15
A little child asked his mother for a piece of drawing paper. The child liked the color blue, so as soon as he received the drawing paper, he scribbled all over it with a blue pencil. "Isn't it nice, Mom?" he said while showing his artwork. The mother smiled and said, "It's beautiful, dear."
Human life is like a piece of drawing paper. The one who creates is God. He scribbles all over it with the color of love. It's not just one color that can be seen, but various colors. Besides blue, there are also red, green, black, and purple. It means that God not only bestows pleasure, but also allows struggles to exist. David understood this reality. Therefore, when describing God as a shepherd, besides mentioning green pastures, he also mentioned valleys of darkness (verse 2a, 4a). He found calm waters, and he also found adversaries (verse 2b, 5a). In the colors of each event, he saw love, that God always accompanies. As a result, David did not feel afraid every time he walked through the valley of darkness. In the midst of challenges, he could still enjoy God's goodness. And he concluded that goodness and faithful love would follow him all the days of his life (verse 6a).
Our current life situation may not seem bright. Instead, we see colors like black, brown, or gray. Struggles come one after another, some even feel very heavy. Cast away the sorrow from within by remembering that those gloomy colors are also God's colors of love. He always accompanies us so that behind all those struggles, we will only see goodness. --LIN/www.renunganharian.net
