SPIRITUAL GENERATION

Baca: 2 Timothy 2:1-13

And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable people who will also be qualified to teach others. (2 Timothy 2:2)

Bacaan tahunan: Numbers 11-13

Many of my friends who became doctors. Most of them come from a family physician, and is already prepared to become a doctor. Regardless of what motivates their parents in that regard, I am impressed with the seriousness they prepare for their children.

Paul also specifically prepare people who will continue his ministry. He knows his life is limited (Article 4:6), and the truth of God should not stop when he was reported dead. Therefore, Paul (generation I) has been specifically taught Timothy (gen. II), so that he can continue teaching it to others (gen. III), which is also good at teaching others (gen. IV). Obviously this is not at all to-face teaching. Timothy has long become a spiritual son Paul until he can be trusted to continue his ministry. Paul wanted Timothy to do the same for others.

How much energy you devote to helping people grow to maturity in Christ so they too can do the same for others? Minimally, if you have time, or full of intentionality as Paul? Someone once calculated. If during your lifetime have 12 children spiritually, and each child also had 12 children spiritually, and thus multiply for 5 generations, then you will have a spiritual descendant of 248 832! How great is the impact, if we are not only busy with a lot of spiritual activity, but began focusing produce spiritual children who will bring the truth of God from generation to generation. - ELS
