Baca: MATTHEW 26:36-46
Bacaan tahunan: Judges 10-12
A man fell fast asleep in his room. Not surprising because all day he was busy working. The next day at 05.00 he had to leave for out of town. It seemed like he would be late, but he actually arrived on time. At 04.15 he opened his eyes. He woke up because he heard the alarm he set before going to sleep.
Before the crucifixion, Jesus prayed in the Garden of Gethsemane. He brought along Peter, James, and John with Him. There He began to feel sad and troubled (verse 37). To the point that His sweat became like drops of blood falling to the ground (Luke 22:44). The three disciples were sleeping because their eyes were heavy (verse 40). In short, these four people were in a weak state. At that moment, Jesus "sounded the alarm". He said, "Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak" (verse 41). The alarm serves to awaken awareness. Eyes are opened, the heart is strengthened to fulfill God's plan. After He sounded the alarm, He Himself "woke up". He prayed again to declare His willingness to do the Father's will (verse 42). Jesus expected the same to happen to His disciples. He hoped they would quickly "wake up" because difficult times for them were about to begin.
Until now, Jesus continues to sound the alarm. He does it for the next generation of faith, which is us. When we hear the alarm, we can turn it off or immediately wake up. However, let us choose the second option, because the fact is, living in this world is not easy. Remember that even Jesus Himself felt weak. Let us always be watchful in prayer. In this way, we can be strong in facing challenges and able to resist the temptation of sin. --LIN / www.renunganharian.net
