SETTING OUT TO THE OTHER SIDE

Baca: MARK 4:35-41

Bacaan tahunan: Deuteronomy 24-27

What do you expect from being a follower of Jesus? Is it to have a peaceful, calm, and easy life? If so, maybe we have misplaced our hopes. Indeed, Jesus invites us to set out to the other side.

Jesus invited the disciples to set out across the lake. However, following Jesus led them to a life-and-death situation due to a storm. This condition made them panic and rely on themselves again. Even though some of them were fishermen who should have experienced many similar storms before, the more they relied on their own strength, the more helpless they became. In their confusion, they finally questioned Jesus.

After Jesus calmed the storm, He said to them, "Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?" Yes, this is the true meaning of His invitation to set out to the other side. He invited them to cross over their limited humanity, to anchor their lives in faith in Him. Faith answers and calms all things, for Jesus always stands to calm the storms for them.

Human life cannot escape struggles. In all those struggles, let us not sink into our humanity. Rely on Jesus, for He always stands before us to calm every storm and provide peace in life. --ZDP/www.renunganharian.net
