Baca: ISAIAH 42:1-9
Bacaan tahunan: Job 35-37
In this challenging time, it is easy to find people who are lacking enthusiasm or almost desperate. They are like broken reeds and fading wicks. Every day, we can encounter them. Whether it is on campus, at work, in society, or even at home. Instead of helping, we often add to their burden. For example, we throw mocking words, judge, belittle, or pretend to be indifferent.
It is not the same with the figure of the servant of the Lord, as depicted by the Prophet Isaiah. He did not come to break the broken reed, nor to extinguish the fading wick. On the contrary, He came bringing hope, restoring, and faithfully upholding the law. This description points to Christ, who is full of gentleness and love.
He strengthens the weak, comforts the mournful, and lifts up the fallen. This affirms that the Lord treats us with compassion, without violence. When we are tired, desperate, or almost giving up, He comes near to help. He strengthens us again. His presence does not inflict more wounds, but heals, cures, and restores.
Let us emulate that servant of the Lord. Instead of worsening the situation through judgmental attitudes, we should care for and serve one another: encouraging those who are weary, comforting those who are sad, providing relief for those who are tired, and healing those who are sick. Not inflicting more emotional wounds on them. Thus, we serve the servant of the Lord. The world needs people who prefer to choose to love, rather than judge others. --SAP/www.renunganharian.net
