RIP CURRENT AND WORLDLY ATTRACTION

Rip current can simply be defined as a swift current created by the meeting of two ocean waves, which when receding back to the sea can drag people into the middle of the sea. The existence of rip current often causes casualties when playing on the beach, but is rarely realized by the public. However, the presence of rip current can actually be observed, even clearly seen when monitored from above, so it can be avoided and not dragged by it.

This worldly attraction works similarly to how rip current pulls people into the middle of the sea, through these three matters: the lust of the eyes, the lust of the flesh, and the pride of life. Just look at how many people have been captivated by these three worldly matters, then unconsciously their lives love this world more-but the love for the Heavenly Father is no longer in them (verse 15). The longer this worldly attraction sticks, the more difficult it is to free oneself, like someone drifting because carried by the ocean current but doesn't know how to break free.

Now, reflecting on the advice of John earlier, we can understand the key to freeing ourselves from worldly attraction, namely by directing our lives to love the Heavenly Father. By living a life loving God, we can "see from above" more clearly so that we not only can recognize any worldly attractions that can harm us, but can avoid them without being dragged into them. Will we live a life like this?
