Baca: Luke 23: 33-43
Yes, father, forgive them for they know not what they do. (Luke 23: 34)
Bacaan tahunan: Proverbs 19-21
The words "do not know" often have the sense of layered. Is it true that a student "does not know" so it cannot be the task of the technical school? Is it true that someone "don't know" when he takes property of another person without permission? Is it true that an employee "do not know" when the task given her not never completed? If it is really "do not know" surely they can't be blamed instead? Another is the case if the reason it was given a cover for laziness, carelessness, and ketidakpeduliannya.
If those who crucify Jesus is truly "no idea" what they have done, doesn't that mean they are innocent? Why did Jesus ask the father to forgive innocent people? If you read the whole Gospel, we see that Jesus was actually already gives enough evidence that he is the Messiah, son of God. Disease, windstorm, demons, even his yield to the death. His teaching is full of wisdom and power. People see the heavens open and heard a voice which said that Jesus the son of God. Jesus himself declared himself the son of God. So, "they know not what they do" here needs to be understood not as a condition of innocence. They should have known with much evidence they see. They are guilty of ignoring all of that and crucify the Messiah. Therefore, they also need forgiveness.
Are there any things that are obviously not appropriate God's Word, but still we do? Beg her forgiveness and do not ignore the truth anymore. Are there any things that indeed we do not know, whether according to his will or not? Don't ignore existing word he gives. Make a list of things that you've never seen with the biblical view, then selidikilah what the Bible says about it. -ELS
