Baca: Romans 8: 18-30
Likewise the spirit helps us in our weakness; for we do not know, how exactly should pray; but the spirit himself delivered a petition to God with the complaints an unspoken. (Romans 8: 26)
Bacaan tahunan: 2 Samuel 13-15
Have you ever confused as to when to pray? For example, in the face of illness. Should pray for healing or beg the power to stand? The request will be heard God? Should pray to get out of a tough spot or ask the grace to endure? At one point, I stopped praying because it was not sure whether I am praying according to God's will.
Readings today gives tremendous comfort: "the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness." Paul reminds the Church in Rome that as children of God, they have the hope of a glorious, though they still live in the middle of a wide range of afflictions, complaints, and pain in this world (18-25). In weakness, we are longing to pray with full faith was often times do not know for sure what the Lord wants. Thanks be to God, when we complain with longing that the glory of God will be revealed (verses 18-19), the Holy Spirit helps us pray according to his will (v. 27). And, when the spirit of God himself who pray, isn't he certainly listened to?
There are things that obviously we identify as God's will, for example, lived in faith, love, and holiness. However, we are not required to know every detail of his will. He understands our ignorance, and therefore his spirit to pray for us. Note that his is not the accuracy of the words, but rather the seriousness of heart that longs for his glory is revealed. Be grateful that God is not limited by our weaknesses. Keep coming to him in the middle of a situation as difficult as anything else. -ELS
