Baca: 2 SAMUEL 21:15-22
Bacaan tahunan: Exodus 4-6
Cheers were heard from the Israelites after David defeated Goliath. A giant man with a height of six cubits and a span lay prostrate with his head beheaded (1 Samuel 17:49-52). Later, another giant figure emerged. Also from Gath. His name was Yisbi-Benob with a spear weighing 300 shekels of bronze (verse 16). Followed by Saf, then Goliath whose spear handle was like a weaver's beam (verses 18-19). Then there is also "the six-fingered man" (verse 20).
The appearance of Yisbi-Benob and his comrades-in-arms shows that there is not only one giant man. It was not enough for David to face the battle just once. Similarly, giant people in our lives represented in the form of major problems, their number is not just one. It is not enough for us to fight in faith just once. There are still many other challenges or difficulties waiting ahead. However, this reality should not make our hearts tremble. The Bible records that all four giants were killed (verse 22). It means, we too will be able to handle all the problems in this life.
Perhaps at this moment we are thinking, "How can I handle this?" Another major issue arises and we feel powerless. At this point, let us not give up yet. Remember the situation David faced when the four giants appeared. He was no longer young and agile. Abishai, Sibkhai, Elhanan, and Jonathan, brave men, stepped forward to kill those giants. Thus the Lord can use the hands of our fellow believers to help us. From them, we may find alternative problem-solving. Or we become stronger because they provide encouragement and prayer support. --LIN/www.renunganharian.net
