MISJUDGMENT

Baca: NUMBERS 21:21-30

Bacaan tahunan: John 16-18

In their journey from Egypt to Canaan, the Israelites intended to cross the land of the Amorites. They sent messengers to the king, asking for permission to pass through his land, even promising not to do anything that would harm the country. However, the king refused. He gathered his army and fought against the Israelites in the desert. He thought he was so strong. But the opposite happened. The Israelites defeated them and took over their land. The king and his people perished.

Every action is the result of a decision. Sometimes we make decisions carefully and thoughtfully, but sometimes we do it carelessly or haphazardly. Indeed, we do not always have enough time to consider something, because sometimes decisions have to be made as quickly as possible. However, sometimes we make decisions very confidently, thinking that we are capable of handling them, but the results may be unexpected.

Ideally, we should always act cautiously. Not just take a step. But by considering the possible risks. Both the good and the bad it causes must be our consideration. But, this is not an excuse to move slowly, or to be unprepared to bear risks. Instead, we should learn to be responsive, think smart, and of course, rely on the wisdom and guidance of God. That's the key that we must hold on to at all times. This principle is what can prevent us from making misjudgments in doing something.
