LET'S HUMBLE OUR EGO

Baca: 1 CORINTHIANS 10:1-13

Bacaan tahunan: Deuteronomy 32-34

Who do we make as the master in our hearts? This question is worth pondering in the life of believers. Even though we confess that Jesus is the Master in our hearts, that confession seems to evaporate when struggles come.

Paul reminds the Corinthian church about how their ancestors used to live as people of God. Even though they made God the Master in their hearts, their attitudes often showed the opposite. They often left God because they were busy with their own desires. For example, when they wanted a visible 'god', they made a golden calf statue. When they were unsatisfied with the food God provided, they grumbled. In reality, the source of their struggles was their own unsatisfied desires. Indeed, the journey in the wilderness is a struggle of its own. However, that struggle is a common struggle that actually aims to strengthen faith, because in that struggle God will surely help and provide a way out.

Whether realized or not, often our ego becomes the master of our hearts. We feel dissatisfied with our lives so we impose various desires that actually bring struggles. Therefore, let us humble ourselves, make Jesus the Master of our hearts, and entrust our lives to Him. Because, even though life is not free from struggles, Jesus accompanies our lives so that we can pass through every struggle. --ZDP/www.renunganharian.net
