In his book the true leadership of Law 21, John Maxwell wrote that one of the essential characteristics of a leader that is often overlooked is giving birth to a leader for the future. Many leaders so great during his lifetime. Unfortunately, when he stepped down or dies, his fight was stopped because he didn't have a successor who will take over the relay baton of leadership.
Paragraph reading today about how Elijah, the great prophet, preparing Elisa will be his successor. There are two things that Elijah had done in this process. First, it gives the authority and trust to the Elisa (paragraph 19). He threw his prophetic mantle which is a symbol of authority to Elisa. Second, he coached Elisa from below--as his servants (verse 21). But according to some interpreters of the Bible, Elisha is the rich as indicated by the number of cattle he owned. However, Elisa humble yourself and "internship" as Elijah. Elijah wants to cultivate the attitude seems to serve within Elisa before he later established to be a prophet.
Whether you are a parent in the family? Are you a leader in your church or your community? Be aware that You undertake the responsibility to prepare the next leader. Ask for the wisdom of God so that you can find the best prospective successor. Then, prepare them with giving authority and trust.
