but the worries of this life, the deceitfulness of wealth and the desires for other things come in and choke the word, making it unfruitful. (Mark 4:19)

Bacaan tahunan: Matthew 15-17

Harvey Pekar, in his graphical novel called The Quitter, recounts his life journey full of anxiety that is always restless in school, failing classes, and change jobs. Actually, he had success with the comic book American Splendor, won at the Festival of Cannes and Sundance, won praise from USA Today and the New York Times, also received major contracts. But on the last page, Pekar said: "Maybe I'll always worry ... even if I wrote the books sell well. I dreamed could live in peace without any problems in the long run. But my age is 65. So, what will happen? "

Jesus likens the anxiety like a thorn bush. God can touch us through His Word through the Bible or everyday events. However, if we still have the "bush", then "seed faith" we can not grow. Jesus vividly describes the sources of human anxiety: worries of this world, the deceitfulness of riches, the desires for other things (verse 19). The things that bind us and make us fruitful.

Harvey Pekar, the comic genius whose heart is bound anxiety, died in July 2010. He had cancer. However, the main source of his death is not cancer, but too much taking antidepressants. This prompted us to examine ourselves: Is the "bush" still pinching our lives? Is the word of God and His righteousness is our number-emphasized? Let's learn to surrender to God, so that the seed of the Word of God and His truth in our hearts, can grow and bear fruit - OLV
