GIFT OF OPPORTUNITY

Baca: Numbers 26:1-65

Take a census of the whole community of Israel by households. List those who are at least 20 years old and eligible for military duty. (Bilangan 26:2)

Bacaan tahunan: Genesis 30-31

Hung Ba Le never thought there were opportunities for him to build a new life in the U.S.. When he was 5 years old, his parents forced the domestic conditions Hung washed out to sea, until finally he was stranded in America. The "Boat People", according to Hung known, do not waste the opportunity that he had received, 34 years later he returned to his country as a U.S. citizen who became the first Vietnamese-blooded commander of U.S. warships, the USS Lassen.

The younger generation Israel also received a gift called "opportunity". Census which we read today is the second census conducted on the orders of Lord Moses (63), to calculate the number of Israeli troops are ready for war (2). They had arrived at the Jordan near Jericho, ready to enter the land of Canaan. Their parents do not have this opportunity (see Numbers 14:34-35). Note the census results are not much different from previous generations (compare with Numbers 3), and the wrath of God in chapter 25. This generation is not more or better prepared to enter the land of Canaan. When they finally managed to occupy the land of Canaan, it was the grace of God alone.

What opportunities are granted by God for us all this time? One of the most valuable is the opportunity to know Christ and receive forgiveness through His cross. We are sinful and should perish, now had the opportunity to live as His children. Have we welcome the gift of a life to know, love, and work for the King of the universe, every day? - Eno

OPPORTUNITY TO BECOME GOD'S CHILDREN IS SO WORTHY DO WE ALREADY RESPOND IT?
