Baca: 1 Corinthians 6:12-20

"I have the right to do anything," you say—but not everything is beneficial. "I have the right to do anything"-but I will not be mastered by anything. (1 Corinthians 6:12)

Bacaan tahunan: Psalm 121, 123-125, 128-130

One view I heard that many of their non-Christian is: "Christians do not have many rules, they are free." On the other hand, the "liability" of the non-Christian be a joke by the Christian brothers. What does the Bible say about freedom?

Followers of Christ are saved by grace, not because they meet certain rules. Thus, it is true that we have freedom in Christ. However, when freedom was used at will the man of sin, we will only be mastered by anything else. Some of the Corinthians, for example, have their bodies to serve the sexual desires so corrupted that marriage should be a reflection of God's dealings with His people (verses 15-20, see also chapter 5:1). Paul admonished them: Do not be mastered by anything. Glorify God in your body! (verses 12, 20).

Are we also being be mastered by anything? I was impressed with a church in Minneapolis. Was a series of restrictions that govern the lives of the congregation. But then they decided to change their commitment: "We are determined to stay away from all drugs, food, beverages, and other practices that can harm the body, or that can weaken our faith or the faith of our brothers." They refused to be mastered by anything, but to use their freedom in Christ to choose actions that restore to him in the pulpit and in the community who care for them. What about you and me? - ELS
