CHASING TAIL

Baca: 1 Kings 3:4-14

... I will give you a wise and discerning heart ... I will give you what you have not asked for—both wealth and honor... (1 Kings 3:12-13)

A cat chasing its own tail preoccupation. The cat was circling, and circling again, hoping to soon find its tail caught. It thought, when it was getting its tail, it will be happy. It will not worry about losing the tail, because it has been holding its tail. And that's wrong at all! Even if it spins up to pass out too, it still would not be able to catch its tail. It just gets exhausted. And indeed without even being pursued, the tail was always faithful to follow it, wasn't it?

Consciously or not, people often use the time of their life to pursue their success, wealth, recognition, and so forth, to get happily life. Every effort, time, and energy, pour out to pursue those things. In fact, it actually was the wrong living target! Any target that is not eternal, it is not feasible in such a way we're after. We even miss the main target, that God wants us to accomplish and have, so that our lives meaningful.

Let's look again, how God is pleased at the request of Solomon (verse 10). Namely, when Solomon asked for wisdom as the most important things he missed, not the other (verse 9). And, when the main target has he accomplished, the Lord was adding other things that needed by Solomon, though Solomon did not ask him (verse 13). Without the need to pursue, God gave him riches, glory, long life. That's all the bonuses! Therefore, we are taught to not chase a bonus, but the main target: wisdom. Namely, the liver corresponding to the heart of God. Eyes that look like the eyes of God. Let's recognize God more intimately personal. And, have wisdom from Him - AW
