Baca: LUKE 10:25-37
Bacaan tahunan: 2 Samuel 13-15
The parable of the generous Samaritan was used by Jesus to answer the question of the Torah expert. Although Jesus knew that the Torah expert was only testing Him, He still answered wisely. Jesus used the opportunity to reveal that loving one another knows no ethnic, status, or religion boundaries. Jesus not only answered the question intellectually, but also revealed the hearts of people. Including the motivation of the Torah expert who sought self-justification.
Through the example of the Samaritan - who is usually looked down upon by the Jews - Jesus made him an example of true love. Jesus challenged the exclusive attitude of the Jews and religious leaders who mastered the Torah law, but did not live out love. The priests and Levites (representing the law and religion) were unable to save. Instead, the disregarded foreigner (the Samaritan) was the one who gave life.
This parable does not explicitly state that Jesus is a Samaritan. However, through the character of the Samaritan who loves completely without selfishness, the reflection of Jesus' heart is shown. Jesus is a person who came to help the wounded and neglected. Jesus is the Savior who is not bound by religious, cultural, or status limits. Jesus came to bring true life and love, not just laws. Jesus not only teaches love, but He Himself is love. Jesus came to be one another to give life to us, sinful humans. Now, Jesus says to us, "Go and do likewise!" --EBL/www.renunganharian.net
