Read: ISAIAH 46:3-4
Bible in a year: Job 1-4
There are many beautiful expressions about old age. I believe all are meant to encourage the elderly. Unfortunately, the contents of those beautiful expressions are not always true. Sometimes, it's just playing with words. Look at the following example.
"Age is just a state of mind over matter. If you don't mind, it doesn't matter," said Leroy Paige, a legendary American baseball player. Is it true? When various problems strike, is it true that not thinking about the existing problems will make all problems disappear? Some say, "Old age is a beautiful age, the age where things within us become beautiful." Is it true? When health deteriorates and physical strength weakens, is it true that in such conditions, things within us become beautiful?
And, what does God say?
God does not say, "Old age is not a problem. Don't think about it." God knows, there are many problems in old age. He does not cover up that fact. God does not want us to be deceived by beautiful words that do not match reality. God wants us to be realistic, to honestly acknowledge our own reality, and to be willing to accept ourselves. Therefore, God says, "Even to your old age, I am He, and even to gray hairs I will carry you!" He emphasizes that whatever our problems are in old age, He will still be the God who loves us. "I am still the same!" says God. "I am still the same loving you, caring for you, even carrying you as I did before."
It's not just beautiful words. It's truly true, because God has indeed-and will continue to-do so. -EE
