NOBLE ATTITUDE OF JOB

Read: JOB 1

Bible in a year: 1 Chronicles 1-2

Even Satan might be surprised to hear Job's words when God allowed him to test Job. Satan had taken away all of Job's possessions that God had given to him. Not only that. Satan also killed all of Job's children in the midst of their joy. Satan's theory was that Job would soon curse God when all the blessings and his family were taken away by God. However, when that happened, Job not only expressed his sorrow. Job even managed to say unexpected words that he had nothing when he was born, and he will be naked when he dies.

With his words, Job reaffirmed his view that God has the right over him. Even in the midst of that situation, Job still praised God. When Satan was not satisfied, he inflicted a disease that caused festering and very itchy sores on Job. Even his wife tried to make Job give up with inappropriate words to curse God and wish for her husband's death. Attacked from within and without, Job was still able to speak noble words, "Shall we receive good from God, and shall we not receive evil?" (Job 2:10).

If any of us is suffering, Job can be an example for us to follow. Job did complain to his friends. However, we must not forget that friends often do not understand us. Therefore, ask for strength from Him to remain faithful and believe, no matter what calamity is befalling us. --HEM/www.renunganharian.net
