DIFFERENT FAITH EXPERIENCES

Read: HEBREWS 11

Bible in a year: 2 Kings 20-22

A servant of the Lord once doubted his calling to serve as a shepherd of the congregation, before finally declaring his readiness. However, it turned out that the early days of church planting shadowed the ideal condition of the congregation, which was totally different from the reality experienced. "There are many elderly people, even some of them have cancer. Last year, I even buried four people who died of cancer, " he said, before adding, "but I have also experienced the extraordinary presence of the Lord until today."

Becoming a follower of Christ does not mean that the path of life will be smooth. "After following Jesus, everything will be fine," is the assumption of some believers, who have not actually seen the complete picture of the reality of the life of Christ's followers. If we reflect on many stories of the Bible characters, as described by the writer of Hebrews, it is far from the ideal living conditions. Some faithful people experience great things, but some are mocked, persecuted, imprisoned, and even have to sacrifice their lives to maintain faith in Christ (verse 36-37).

The presentation of the "different experiences" from the witnesses of faith can hopefully be a source of comfort for us, who may be experiencing similar conditions at the moment. Stand firm in faith, continue to carry out the calling of service, and follow Christ until the end of life because God provides something better, which can never be given by this world (verse 39-40). --GHJ/www.renunganharian.net
