Read: ACTS 1:1-5
Bible in a year: 1 Kings 21-22
The disciples had followed Jesus for more than three years. They listened to His teachings. Witnessed His various miracles. Observed how He treated others. Sometimes they were amazed and admired Jesus. However, sometimes they misunderstood, even completely did not understand what He meant. When Jesus suffered cruel torture to death on the cross, His disciples were deeply shaken. They were overwhelmed by fear, sadness, and confusion. Three days later, they experienced another equally surprising event. Jesus' tombstone was rolled away, His body was missing, rumors and speculations arose.
In that situation, Jesus appeared to His disciples. Repeatedly. In various ways. Jesus assured them that He truly lives. He has risen and defeated death. For 40 days, He appeared to His disciples. He taught them, giving an intensive class to help them understand what He had actually taught before. Christ's action shows His patience toward the slow-thinking, hard-to-believe, and slow-to-understand disciples.
They finally understood the purpose of Christ's suffering and resurrection, which is for the salvation of sinful humanity. That's what they boldly proclaimed after the Holy Spirit descended upon them. They became eyewitnesses who experienced firsthand what they proclaimed. They also became diligent, brave witnesses who stood firm in their faith until the end of their lives. May we also understand it well so that we can be witnesses of His resurrection. --HT/www.renunganharian.net
THE RISEN CHRIST PROVIDES ASSURANCE OF SALVATION AND VICTORY, THAT IS THE TRUTH THAT WE MUST CONTINUE TO PROCLAIM.
