JUDAS' KISS

Read: MATTHEW 26:47-56

Bible in a year: 1 Samuel 18-20

In the culture of the Israelites and their ancestors, the practice of kissing has various meanings and is not always related to romance. A kiss is a common greeting sign to show hospitality, it can also express closeness, friendship, and love, as well as to show respect and loyalty. Usually, they would kiss someone's cheek or forehead.

However, this act which symbolizes kindness was chosen by Judas Iscariot as a sign to hand over the Master to those who were going to capture Him. He used a sign of loyalty to betray Him. He masked and deceived for the sake of his personal ambition. He conspired with the Jewish leaders to capture Jesus. He received a sum of money as his reward. Then, he pretended to be a disciple who longed for his teacher, greeted Him warmly, then kissed Him. This betrayal not only led Jesus to His suffering and death on the cross, but also caused Judas to perish.

Judas' actions show that sometimes those closest to us are the most dangerous if they do not have sincerity and pure love. Yes, the betrayal of those we trust is the most painful. May we learn to love sincerely, and not be blinded by tempting offers that can ruin the integrity of our lives. Let's get rid of manipulative nature. Let us continue to learn to be faithful people, showing genuine respect to others, and reflecting commendable behavior as followers of Christ. --HT/www.renunganharian.net
