Read: PHILIPPIANS 4:2-9
Bible in a year: Joshua 16-18
I was stunned after receiving a reply message from Rani, an old friend who was separated by a distance of four hundred kilometers. Through information from the WhatsApp group, I found out that Rani was suffering from a fairly chronic illness. When I asked about her condition, unexpectedly she replied through a weak and heavy voice note on WhatsApp, like this, 'Everything is fine, my friend. Jesus holds control in every aspect of our lives. I hope you are in good health. God bless you.'
While urging the church in Philippi to maintain joy in the Lord, Paul was in prison. The experience of serving as an apostle of Christ, if responded to in normal conditions, would also feel heavy to keep the heart joyful. In general, it seems very easy to advise others to rejoice when someone is in a good condition, but if one is experiencing struggles, hardships, fighting against illness, or facing grief, who can encourage others to remain joyful, if not by the help of the Lord?
In the hope that believers will continue to maintain joy within themselves, the writing of the Apostle Paul has a divine element when we look at its original language (en-theos: in the Lord). Indeed, true joy can only be experienced when the Lord works in the hearts of every believer so that they can encourage others to remain joyful and hopeful in the Lord.
