MAKING EXCUSES FOR BEING HESITANT

Read: EZEKIEL 3:16-21

Bible in a year: Numbers 23-25

Receiving a reprimand from one of the Sunday School students, that's what I experienced while teaching. I am grateful because this student was not hesitant to rebuke, making me aware and change. On a different occasion, I knew a pastor committed a crime. I stayed silent with the excuse of being hesitant. I felt that this pastor knows a lot about God's word, let others rebuke him, I felt it was impolite to rebuke his sin.

Hesitation is a mixture of shyness, reluctance, shame, and respect. As part of courtesy, it's good to be hesitant. However, don't make hesitation an excuse for not warning the sins of fellow believers, even our spiritual leaders, because they are also human beings who can fall into sin. Ezekiel was called by the Lord as a guard of Israel. One of his duties was that Ezekiel had to warn the people of Israel who did evil (verse 17). If Ezekiel has warned the person committing evil, and he does not turn from his wickedness, Ezekiel saves himself. On the contrary, if Ezekiel refuses to warn him, and the person dies in his sin, the Lord will require his life from Ezekiel (verse 19-20).

In practice, it is not easy to rebuke someone's sin, but let's do what the Lord commands. Rebuke with love without humiliating him publicly. Do not hesitate to rebuke the sin of the person we love so that he is aware and repents, and does not perish because of his sin. --RTG/www.renunganharian.net

WARNING SOMEONE WHO IS COMMITTING A SIN IS NOT EVIL, BUT A NECESSITY FOR THAT PERSON TO BE AWARE AND REPENT.
