COVERING YOUR PARTNER'S FAULTS

Read: MATTHEW 1:18-25

Bible in a year: Leviticus 22-23

Six years have passed since my wife, Fanny, and I got married. Throughout our marriage journey, both Fanny and I have made mistakes and faults. We have agreed not to expose or humiliate each other's mistakes and faults to others. It is different from some couples who embarrass each other by spreading their partner's faults or mistakes on social media. As a result, divorces happen, and unnecessary people end up knowing about it.

Joseph, as Mary's fiancé, did not want to disgrace Mary publicly when he found out that she was pregnant. Joseph intended to divorce Mary quietly, but his plan was cancelled after an angel informed him about Mary's situation. Joseph obeyed the angel's instructions and took Mary as his wife. The story of Joseph and Mary as the parents of Jesus Christ may be brief, but from their story, we learn about love, one of which is covering everything.

Love covers everything, including your partner's faults. It does not mean compromising with the mistakes, faults, or sins committed, but in love, there is cleansing, correction, change, and forgiveness without the need for humiliation. Our spouses are not perfect, they can make mistakes, faults, or sins that hurt us at any time. We are not perfect either. We continue to love our partners, covering their faults, helping them improve and change. --RTG/www.renunganharian.net
