ALONE AMIDST THE CROWD

Read: GENESIS 2:15-25

Bible in a year: Leviticus 5-7

The nature of social beings, humans need each other. The context of today's reflection is related to the loneliness of Adam, which God then completed by bringing Eve by his side, blessing them as husband and wife. However, in a broader context, this verse seems to also be the beginning of the understanding that humans cannot truly live alone. They need to establish relationships with others if they want to live a better life.

However, today we are facing the fact of technological advances that actually make humans feel isolated amidst the crowd. Social interactions, as well as physical activities, are starting to be replaced by virtual interactions, especially through various activities via the internet. As a result, in the "hustle and bustle" of the virtual world activities that occur, some people feel lonely. The atmosphere at the dining table no longer feels warm and missed because physically maybe family members are present, but they are busy interacting with others while holding their respective gadgets. Truly pitiful and sad, isn't it?

If that day God acted to overcome the problem of loneliness for Adam, now it is us who are expected to act to overcome the "loneliness" issue that afflicts many people in this modern era. The decision that could possibly start by using gadgets appropriately, then we begin to rebuild relationships and interactions with family or others who are with us ... starting from today. --GHJ/www.renunganharian.net
