BECOMING APPEARANCE LIKE

Read: 1 CORINTHIANS 13:1-3

Bible in a year: Leviticus 1-4

Love is the determinant of significance. Without love, everything is meaningless. Even though we master all languages, have the gift of prophecy, have vast knowledge, perfect faith, like to share, even willing to sacrifice ourselves, but if without love, it all means nothing (verse 1-3).

However, indirectly verses 1-3 reveal a terrifying fact: even without love, we can do things that appear good, noble, and religious. Without love, we can do things that seem full of love.

The problem is, many people are easily attracted to outward appearances, without considering what lies behind the appearance. In such situations, the terrifying fact above becomes a great temptation. Many people use that fact as a way to achieve selfish goals. Want an example? Even without love, but purely for popularity and image, people can pour out "aid" to victims of natural disasters.

For these people, what matters is not a meaningful life, but the achievement of their selfish goals. Therefore, they need a respectable camouflage to cover their selfish agenda. And, appearing good, appearing noble, appearing religious is the perfect camouflage.

Therefore, the Lord reminds us: without love, everything is meaningless. What does it mean? The above words are not an encouragement to live meaninglessly, but a strong warning for us to live out love so that our lives become meaningful. --EE/www.renunganharian.net

BUT IF I DO NOT HAVE LOVE, I AM NOTHING BUT A NOISY GONG OR A CLANGING CYMBAL. -1 CORINTHIANS 13:1B
