When I was in school, there was a typical habit every time an exam took place. A writing "STAY CALM, THERE IS AN EXAM!" This writing deliberately written in all capital letters was put in front of the classroom, as well as in front of the school. Its aim is nothing but to remind every reader to empathize, to maintain a calm atmosphere. Thus, the situation remains conducive. Students who are taking the exam are not disturbed in their concentration.
Towards those who are in the exam of life (struggle), Paul taught the disciples to have empathy, sensitivity, and concern. Being present, listening, and supporting the suffering of others. Helping each other in bearing the burdens, for this is how to fulfill the law of Christ. However, that does not mean that towards those who are struggling we should behave like the tendency of some people. Giving a lot of advice, reading a lot of Bible verses.
Compassion can also be expressed by maintaining calmness. Calm here does not only mean being silent (indifferent and ignoring). But being able to control the tongue from showering them with judgments. Comments, sarcasm, mockery, or spreading negative news about them. Because the suffering and downfall of others is not an opportunity for people to boast or feel more spiritual. Should not the quality of true Christianity be seen in the attitude of not judging others who have fallen, but forgiving and lifting them up? --EBL/www.renunganharian.net
