HEALTHY BREAKFAST

Read: MATTHEW 4:1-11

Bible in a year: Hebrews 11-13

Breakfast is very important to provide energy and nutrients needed by the body to start the day. In addition to providing energy, breakfast can improve concentration, maintain metabolism, prevent overeating (especially cravings for unhealthy snacks), and also improve mood, so that we are not easily angry or lose spirit. However, there are breakfast choices that can disrupt digestion, cause blood sugar spikes, or make the body quickly tired. Namely, when we have breakfast with fried foods, high-sugar foods, soda drinks, and various processed foods high in salt and saturated fats.

Likewise, spiritual breakfast, which we consume every morning. A healthy breakfast for the spirit is nothing but consuming the word of God, to lay the foundation for the new day that we will face. However, isn't it that nowadays many people tend to start their day with a breakfast of social media stories? Whereas, something we see first thing in the morning greatly affects our mood and focus throughout the day.

The Lord Jesus sets an example for us to prioritize God above needs, let alone worldly desires. Jesus, who was hungry and needed food, chose to continue to maintain His obedience to the truth of God's will, instead of prioritizing His stomach's affairs. Here, the self-control that Jesus did is not only about restraining oneself, but also about holding fast to the truth of God. This is the importance of the word, so that our self-control is based on the truth of His will.
