THE GREATEST SINNER

Read: 1 TIMOTHY 1:12-17

Bible in a year: Hebrews 7-10

Everyone has a past, including the most faithful followers of Christ. Some may have fallen into various criminal acts or lived in sin. Others may have had a relatively good past in the eyes of society and have no criminal records. However, in reality, everyone has one thing in common. We are all sinners, and no one lives a righteous life according to God's standards (cf. Romans 3:10, 23).

In his letter to Timothy, his spiritual son, the Apostle Paul describes how grateful he is for the grace that the Lord bestowed upon him. He used to be a blasphemer and a persecutor of Christ's followers. He made various efforts to destroy them. He did that before he knew the Lord Jesus. After knowing Him and understanding His work of salvation, he called himself the greatest sinner who was shown mercy and saved by the Lord Jesus. This understanding arises from the awareness and humility of someone who has experienced God's grace. As an expression of his gratitude, he serves Christ diligently and faithfully.

In the presence of God's grace, we should realize that we are people deserving of wrath. We are sinners who deserve punishment and destruction. It is His forgiveness and love that save us. Therefore, we should always remember our past with our eyes focused on God's grace so that we remain humble and full of gratitude.
