FROG BECOMES OX

Read: JOHN 3:22-36

Bible in a year: Philippians

The proverb "like a frog wants to become an ox" illustrates the attitude of wanting to appear big, even though the reality is not so. This is a proud attitude that is not only unconstructive, but can also damage the community. Quarrels arise because each wants to be recognized as the most significant. We too can behave similarly. We feel more important, more spiritual, or more deserving than others.

John the Baptist shows the opposite. He realized that his role was only to pave the way for Christ. When many people praised his authority, John directed them to Christ. He even mentioned that he was not worthy to untie His sandals. He was very joyful when Jesus came. He described Jesus as the true bridegroom. John was just a companion of the bridegroom. He did not even feel threatened when Jesus' disciples baptized. He acknowledged that everything was a gift from heaven. Jesus must become greater, and he must become less, that was his life principle.

John the Baptist's way of life is in line with the advice of the Apostle Paul. Everything we have is basically a gift from above. It is not right for us to boast. Because it is not because of our own work, but only by the grace of God. Every praise and appreciation we receive should make us more humble, while referring to the Lord Jesus. Jesus must be the one who is supreme and honored, not ourselves.

WHEN THE LORD ALLOWS US TO BE PRAISED AND APPRECIATED, WE MUST REFER TO CHRIST AS THE SUPREME ONE
