DRAWING THE RIGHT CONCLUSION

Read: Numbers 13

Bible in a year: John 11-12

Moses sent 12 men to spy on the land of Canaan. After 40 days, they returned. Out of the 12 men, 10 said that they could not advance to attack the people there (verse 31). The reason was that the inhabitants were strong and the cities were fortified. Moreover, they saw the descendants of Anak, who were giants (verse 28). After that, they died of a plague (Numbers 14:37). It means, they had made a mistake before the Lord.

The ten men correctly described the situation of the land of Canaan. Indeed, the inhabitants were strong and the cities were fortified. Indeed, there were descendants of Anak, giants. They just drew the wrong conclusion. They mistakenly thought, "We cannot." Two reasons underlie that mistake. First, Canaan was the land promised by the Lord to the Israelites. If the Lord had promised, He would surely fulfill it. So they would surely be able to occupy the land. Second, the Lord always accompanied them. The Lord is full of power, He is able to do all things. So the opinion "we cannot" is not appropriate to be uttered.

Not only correctly describing the situation in this life, we must also draw the right conclusion. Not only realizing the severity of the problems that are happening, we must also believe and declare, "I can overcome it." Two reasons underlie our belief. First, the Lord promised that the trials we experience will not exceed our ability (1 Corinthians 10:13). So there will always be enough capability available. Second, the Lord always accompanies us. So it is impossible for there to be a problem that cannot be solved. Starting from now, let none of us be pessimistic like 10 out of 12 spies.

WE MAY HIGHLIGHT THE WEIGHT OF LIFE SITUATIONS, BUT JUST DON'T DECLARE POWERLESSNESS AFTERWARDS
