CALL OF WISDOM

Read: HOSEA 14

Bible in a year: John 7-8

A disciple who can do the tasks given by his teacher is surely a disciple who always pays attention when the teacher is teaching. Perhaps he also studies diligently to master the material. Without having correct knowledge and understanding, simple tasks can be considered difficult. Even tasks that build up the disciples are seen as burdensome.

Hosea's prophecy to the people of Israel ended with a call to wisdom so that the wise would learn from experience: not to continue on the wrong path. Isn't it impossible for Israel to save themselves? They cannot rely on others such as idols and gods of other nations. Only God alone can restore their condition. To awaken the awareness of the people about this, Hosea proclaimed that call of wisdom. So that Israel would realize that outside of the Lord, they are nothing and cannot do anything. Nevertheless, Hosea did not force Israel. He entrusted it back to the people of Israel, let the wise understand, and the intelligent learn. So that the righteous will live by it, while the wicked will die by it.

May we be among the wise who are willing to heed the call of wisdom. May Hosea's prophecy, which points out the sin of Israel in idol worship, serve as a reminder to us of the danger of turning away from God. May it be because of wisdom, we not only know God and His ways intellectually, but also practically in our lifestyle.
