PROMISE OF THE HEART

Read: ROMANS 14:1-12

Bible in a year: Luke 10-11

Youth Pledge is a historic moment that arises from the strong desire of the nation's children to unite in the history of the Indonesian independence movement. The vow that unites differences for the sake of unity that arises from the longing to liberate Motherland from the grip of colonialists. The seriousness of the promise that became one of the important historical milestones in our country.

Everyone who believes in God is basically bound by the promise we make before Him: whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord (verse 8). The belief in the heart (verse 5) signifies acknowledgment of God's sovereignty that can lead us to an attitude that can overcome differences because in truth we are one body in Christ (Romans 12:5).

Self-empowerment that can prevent us from falling into the trap of judgment and humiliation towards fellow members of His body which has the potential to trigger division (1 Corinthians 12:25). A bitter reality that is certainly far from the hope of Jesus who desires us to be one, just as the Father and Himself (John 17:21). Unity that will lead everyone to glorify God (verse 11).

A vow always stems from self-sincerity. Not just rhetoric. Meaningless small talk. Being faithful to God is a promise of the heart that essentially stems from an attitude of respecting His authority over our lives and the differences within the body of Christ. A wise decision that brings true meaning to life.
