NO ONE UNDERSTANDS

Read: 1 SAMUEL 1

Bible in a year: Matthew 22-23

It feels suffocating when we are sad, no one understands our sorrow. Sometimes people even try to cheer us up with jokes. As if our sadness will quickly disappear with laughter. But for us, the jokes can sound like mockery. What's even more painful is when our closest ones do not understand our issues. Especially when we feel like our partner is supporting the opposing side.

What Hana experienced was also not understood by Elkana. When Hana was depressed, Elkana tried to comfort her. Elkana intended to encourage Hana not to cry and be sad. However, Elkana did not really understand the great pressure that Hana was under from Elkana's other wife, Penina. Understandably, not having a son at that time was a disgrace. Elkana even casually said, "Am I not more precious to you than ten sons?" Hana felt even more pressured when she prayed pouring out all her complaints to the Lord, Priest Eli mistakenly thought she was drunk.

Hana expressed her sadness to the right person, which is the Lord. The Lord answered Hana's prayer by opening her womb. Hana then gave birth to Samuel. So, when we experience hardships that no one understands, just come to the Lord. Even if the Lord does not immediately help or fulfill our request, the Lord will surely provide comfort and extra strength for us to face our problems.
