Bible in a year: Zechariah 1-7
Laziness has been a challenge for humans throughout history. For the lazy, there is always a perfect reason to postpone or avoid doing something. Yet everyone knows that a lazy attitude will only result in negative outcomes. Being lazy in studying will result in ignorance. Being lazy in working will lead to poverty. Being lazy in thinking will keep life stagnant. In short, the life of a lazy person will surely be unproductive.
The Book of Proverbs vividly describes the behavior of lazy people. Making excuses that there is danger on the road or outside (verse 13) so they won't go anywhere, they are like a door that turns on its hinges (verse 14). The current generation calls it 'mager,' which means lazy and loves to lie down. Even performing simple tasks for their own needs cannot be done efficiently. Ironically, they consider themselves wiser than others (verse 16). And of course, they are excellent at finding many reasons to remain lazy.
Honestly, everyone has been attacked by laziness at some point. However, let laziness not become a habit, a characteristic, or a trait inherent in us. Our God is an active God. He desires His children to live productively and maximize all the potential He has given to us. Through a fruitful life, we can bless many people and glorify God. Certainly, hard work needs to be balanced with rest, vacation, or other recreational activities.
