DO NOT LET YOUR HEART BE TROUBLED

Read: LUKE 3:1-20

Bible in a year: Haggai

Every struggle we experience often results in inner conflicts. Different desires from reality then produce demands that further cloud the heart, causing conflicts within. If we are deceived, the solution we seek is not to be found, but rather to vent the conflict in various ways and demands.

Similar actions were taken by the Jews, where they hoped that John the Baptist was the Messiah. The struggle for the coming of the Messiah was not without conditions. Their hearts were weary due to Roman occupation, compounded by the emergence of many who claimed to be the Messiah, which gave a glimmer of hope, but in the end, they died as a result of punishment so that the new hope that sprouted had to die repeatedly. Realizing that their hope was directed towards him, John chose to admit that he was not the Messiah. His openness certainly could bring disappointment. However, John wanted to awaken them to return to the basics, that from the beginning their hope was in God. John invited them to make room for the presence of God in their hearts even in the midst of difficulties.

In the midst of struggle, we are invited to clarify our minds and hearts. Honestly remember what our hope is and make room for God's presence in our hearts, for God will surely be with us.
