LEAVING EVERYTHING BEHIND

Read: MATTHEW 4:18-22

Bible in a year: Ezekiel 46-48

One cannot leave his job just like that if there is nothing extremely important. Especially if his job provides income for livelihood. Then the Lord seems to bless his work in such a way that he can enjoy it with his family. That is why people often consider it carefully and sometimes delay the decision to change jobs. Even if the offer of a new job is more comfortable and has a higher income.

The story above is different from Simon Peter and Andrew, as well as James and John. At that time, the Lord asked Peter to cast the net into a deeper place. When the net was cast, the fish caught were so many. So much so that Peter had to ask his friends for help. Because of that spectacular miracle, Peter immediately realized his sinfulness and asked the Lord to stay away from him. However, the Lord instead invited him to follow Him to become fishers of men.

Peter, Andrew, James, and John immediately answered His call. At that moment, they immediately left their jobs and also their families. They felt that Jesus was far more valuable than all their possessions.

Surely, we have also left something valuable when following Christ. But, have we left everything? Or do we still hold on to our old way of life? Are we willing to give up everything we enjoy to follow the Lord for the rest of our lives?

FOLLOWING THE LORD IS FAR MORE VALUABLE THAN CONTINUING TO ENJOY OUR OLD WAY OF LIFE
