SENSITIVITY

Read: COLOSSIANS 3:5-17

Bible in a year: Ezekiel 43-45

Sensitivity can make someone quickly bring a drink when hearing a friend cough. Or, immediately excuse themselves when visiting, just because they see the host glance at the clock on the wall. People with high sensitivity, or Highly Sensitive Person (HSP), tend to be more responsive to environmental stimuli and have stronger responses to intense situations.

Not only getting rid of anger, rage, and wickedness (verse 8), the congregation of Colossae was taught to have compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. Therefore, sensitivity is needed so that people can easily understand each other. Sensitivity helps people to become more empathetic, creative, and sensitive to the needs of others. Unfortunately, having high sensitivity easily makes people influenced by the moods of others. This potentially ruins their experience because they excessively think about others. They are vulnerable to anxiety, depression, stress, and emotional fatigue.

Considering that the essence of believers is love, we should have sensitivity to express care for others. However, we need to cultivate sensitivity so as not to poison ourselves when we hear, see, or receive negative stimuli. This is where patience plays a role. We must endure, stay calm, and not easily be disheartened facing challenges. Always allow the peace of Christ to reign over us so that the wisdom of the Lord always fills our hearts.
