Read: EXODUS 17:1-7
Bible in a year: Ezekiel 40-42
When facing difficulties and crises, sometimes we forget about the miraculous provision of God that we have experienced in the past. We then complain incessantly. We may even start questioning God's purpose. In our despair, some people begin to think or say, "Why doesn't God help me? Why am I allowed to suffer like this?"
When Moses led the Israelites out of slavery in Egypt, they passed through the desert. There was no water there. They then threatened to stone Moses. They even questioned the presence of God. Their behavior was testing God. Yet they had just been given manna and quail by the miraculous work of God. Before that, God freed Israel from the severe suffering of slavery in Egypt through ten plagues. Then He led Israel with His presence through the pillar of cloud and pillar of fire. He also split the sea so that the Israelites could cross safely. He destroyed Pharaoh and his army when they tried to cross the sea by returning the flow of water to drown them.
Believers need to learn from the events at Massah and Meribah. The difficulties we face today cannot be compared to the miracles that God has done in our lives. We need to learn to fully trust in God's presence. Let us not test Him.
