Read: 1 PETER 2:11-17
Bible in a year: Lamentations 1-2
Before ascending to heaven, Jesus sent His disciples to proclaim the Gospel. Therefore, being a Gospel proclaimer is the responsibility of every believer. However, carrying out this task is not easy. Sometimes, instead of receiving it with joy, people tend to hate Christianity even more when they are evangelized.
How can this happen? When we preach the Gospel by judging. When we persuade and even force people to come to Jesus, to become Christians. When winning souls becomes the focus, goal, and measure of success in preaching the Gospel. Moreover, what does it mean to be a Christian without faith? Therefore, the responsibility of proclaiming the Gospel does not stop at successfully converting people to Christianity. There must be follow-up (discipleship) to guide them (nurture and grow faith) so that they may grow and bear fruit.
Peter teaches that proclaiming the Gospel is not only about reaching new souls. More than that, proclaiming the Gospel must be done through words and deeds, through our life testimony. Sharing the Gospel is not only delivering the word of God, but also loving others. Our lives are like an open Gospel, which can be read by everyone. Therefore, it is expected that through our words, behavior, and attitude, people can see a portrayal of the holy and loving Jesus. In other words, proclaiming the Gospel is not only bringing people to Jesus, but bringing Jesus to others.
