A JEALOUS GOD

Read: Exodus 34: 10-17

Take heed to yourself, ... thou shalt not worship other gods, because God, the name of his jealous man, is a jealous God. (Exodus 34: 12-14)

Bible in a year: 2 Chronicles 6-7; Psalm 136

"Mami, I was talking with Mami Mami, why even talk to her?" protest Sean, my friend's child, when his mother fun chatting with me. Sean jealous. She wants undivided attention. He takes care of his mother. He protests when the mother was busy managing the things other than herself.
God calls himself as a jealous God (verse 14). Does God so requires attention, so don't willingly if his people that maintain the "God"? And, if not heeded, he can protest, angry, and make his people difficult? Far from the image of it. Verses 10-11 shows us just how fierce the Lord. She ruled does everything, even determine the living dead Nations! And the Lord purposed that through his people, Israel, all the Nations "will see the deeds of the Lord" (paragraph 10b). However, when the hearts of his people to hold on the other, they no longer can be a reflection of the glory of God. They damage the honor God since replacing God with anything not comparable to his (14-17). This is not desired of the Lord!
Really, we should be thankful to have God undaunted as the jealous, childish or not because he needs us, but rather because he certainly is the only person who deserves all the respect from his creation. Like the nation of Israel, particularly we also prefer to follow what is good according to human sight. Our attitude does not show that God deserves to be respected and adhered to. Remember, our Lord is a jealous God. Let life for honor him! -ELS
