VOCATIO

Read: John 17:1-8

I have brought you glory on earth by finishing the work you gave me to do. (John 17:4)

Bible in a year: Numbers 8-10

Are you working to live or live to work? In both cases there are differences of opinion and interpretation of the nature of a very big job. If we work to live, then the work just to be a means to something else. No wonder many people wanted to have a "financial independence" so that no longer have exhausting themselves working for it. If we live to work, then work into the gym where we dedicate our lives to the glory of God. God wants us to love and serve Him, and work into the way we do it.

Today we read the record of the Lord Jesus prayer towards the end of his life. His attention to prayer, we know the purpose of Jesus' life is for God to be known and glorified. What is interesting is the way Jesus did: "to get the job done the way you have given me ..." (verse 4). And, we are sent into the world as Christ was sent (paragraph 18). Said work in English is a vocation, which comes from the Latin meaning vocatio call. Jobs and calls should be the same.

Do you appreciate your current job as a call of God? Finding the call is not only applicable when a person does struggle to become a pastor or missionary, but should include all other vocation. Only then we can only experience the authentic work, where we have the right job, for the right reasons, and enjoy the results. - JOO

Glorifying God involves finding and completing calls or work that God has given us to do
