On the contrary, we speak as those approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel. We are not trying to please people but God, who tests our hearts. (1 Thessalonians 2:4 BIS)

There's a joke about a priest who entered into the Christian bookstore and pick a few books. After looking at the price, he approached the clerk and asked: "Are there special rates for the servants of God?" Hmm ... there is a servant who is seeking a special facility. Ridiculous is not it?
Paul and his friends never suspected was looking for respect or personal gain through service. Paul denies this and asserts the principle of the ministry. He knows who his master and to whom he was seeking approval. For him, God is the Lord who trust him and entrust message of the gospel to him. Because it is only to Allah he must account for all services. Only one desire: pleasing the owner of the service of God (verse 4). Even better to earn the praise of men, but that's not what it should look for in service (paragraph 6). Because if the praise of people we're after, then the whisper of the Lord could be ignored.
In the service may often times we forget who is our "master". We are more often open ear to the side rather than upward. We prefer and more often seek comments from people around us instead of our Lord's comments. Then based on the comments that we direct our ministry. During this time, to comment more who we feel uncomfortable or annoyed? Our "master" and friend in the world, or our Lord in heaven? - PBS
