Read: Haggai 1:1-11
This is what the LORD Almighty says: "These people say, 'The time has not yet come to rebuild the LORD’s house.'" (Haggai 1:2)
Bible in a year: Genesis 41-42
When my children were in teenager age, I got annoyed with some of their attitudes. In search of identity and identity, although age was not enough, they are often desperate to watch a movie 17 years and over or ride their own motorcycles. They had had enough. However, when asked to perform certain responsibilities, they often argued, "We have not grown up. It's not time for that!" Adult for them is identical to prioritize the things that became a passion and desire themselves.
The people of Israel had made a similar excuse. After returning from exile, they were given the responsibility to build the house of God. However, they did not do it. They have not had time to rebuild their lives as God's people if their own lives have not been established. They chose to stay back in their homes (v. 4). This upside-down priorities that result in undue life (verse 6). God wanted them to pay attention to this situation and return to their priorities right, to the glory of God revealed through them (verse 8).
As God's people, whether the priority of our lives upside down too often? Are the days we are only triggered and encouraged to pursue the establishment, and the identity of his own desires? And, as the coffers are hollow, we also do not feel satisfied or full? God wants us to even pay attention to this situation. He wants us to have a priority to build a "house of communion with God", and find our identity in things that are pleasing and declare His glory - ODY
