BETWEEN INTENTION AND WORK

Read: Galatian 5:16-26

For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever[a] you want. (Galatian 5:17)

Reconstruction Minister of Japan, Ryu Matsumoto, resigned for being rude when visiting tsunami victims some time ago. Interesting to listen to what he described about his behavior: "My blood type is B. This means that I can explode at any time and I mean not always the same with my actions," he said. Does it contain a statement of truth or just to defend yourself?

Actually, the problem of disharmony between the "desire to do" (intention) with the "what" (the work) is a classic problem long ago. Paul explains the cause: "the Spirit against the flesh, so that ye can not do what you want." We can find out where a stronger intention in a person by looking at his work. Works of the flesh are all acts of sin (19-21) while the fruit of the Spirit is love, peace and all other good things (22-23). As belonging to Christ, supposed intention of the Holy Spirit controls our lives and control all of our work (24-25).

Is not easy to create harmony between the initiative and work as a child of God. That's why we can not do it alone. We need to rely on the Holy Spirit to help us. Let's continue to give yourself and please sensitivity follow His leading. Our actions do not depend on blood type, but depending on who lead it. Are we led by the Spirit or controlled by our flesh.
