CONSEQUENCES OF A DECISION

Read: Matthew 8:18-22

The most enjoyable activity in our family is a conversation before bed at night. One time the youngest told his desire to explore the world by seeking scholarships to schools in many places and a career in many countries. I was proud of his achievement. However, I reminded him of the consequences of those ideals: he must learn and work harder in order to achieve a scholarship and compete with other well-educated workforce.

Appearance of Jesus with the teachings of charismatic, with a divine power to heal, as well as his warm personality, charming so many people. Then something unusual happened. One of the scribes who "normally" hostile and find fault of Jesus is in awe address Jesus as "rabbi" (great teacher). In fact, he expressed the desire to follow Jesus anywhere. When responding, Jesus seemed to say: "Before you follow me, realize your decision, because there is a price to you pay."

Jesus did not want to mobilize followers who just dragged emotional moment. Easy spirit blazing, but briefly and then subsided and disappeared. Jesus warned that following Him is to deny ourselves and take up the cross (Matthew 10:38), and prefer Him above of his own interests and the family (Luke 14:26), and distribute wealth to the poor (Matthew 19:21). Can you bear the consequences of a decision to follow Him? Do not take the decision because of emotions or ambitions. Take a decision because you realize that He who calls and He will enable you to faithfully serve Him - SST
