being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus. (Philippians 1:6)
Bible in a year: Mark 8-10
In A Wayfarer's Journey, John Bunyan tells The Christian journey to the Celestial City, the heavenly city of the eternal. When stopped at the house of the Interpreter, he saw a fire burning on the face of the wall. In front of it, there are people who stand while repeatedly doused the fire with water, but the fire flared up even more. The Interpreter explains, the fire was the work of grace in the hearts of believers; people who sprinkled the water trying to extinguish it is the evil. Then, why is it the blazing fire? The Interpreter shows what goes on behind the wall: A person standing and holding the vessel of oil constantly, in secret, pour it into the fire. "Christ," said the Interpreter, "which is continuously, with the oil of His grace, maintains His work that already started on this person."
Bunyan subscribes to the explanation of the Apostle Paul about the growth and maturation of the believer. The work of God within us last a lifetime and ends when we met face to face with Jesus Christ. His work for us took place when Christ was crucified. His work in us begins when we believe in Him. He gave his Spirit, who are with us forever (John 14:16), to continue and refine the work.
If we have doubts, can we put an end to "the game of faith" with a good result? Let today's passage confirms our beliefs. Our victory is not determined by our efforts, but is assured by His grace - ARS
IF HIS OIL GRACE IS POURED INTO OUR HEART CONTINUALLY WHO CAN EXTINGUISH THE FLAME?
